What is African art?

The global art scene is now quietly but surely turning its attention to Africa. In the past, African expression was often described using terms like "ethnic art" and "tradition." However, contemporary African art is significantly changing that image.

Lagos, Accra and Cape Town.
With a few cities as hubs, African artists are expanding their horizons to international galleries and art fairs. Fairs like Art X Lagos in Nigeria are emblematic of this trend. Africa is not just an "up-and-coming destination"; it is already a corner that is shaping the current state of global art.

A rapidly changing city.
Multi-layered culture and language.
A generation that faces history and chooses its future.

The works that emerge from this process transcend regionality and emerge as highly contemporary expressions.

We are attracted to expression that appears in the form of abstraction.

Traces of emotion remain on the canvas.
Hesitation and determination lie beneath the layers of color.
The artist's breath is reflected in the fluctuations of his brushstrokes.

Abstract paintings are sometimes more honest than words.

Even without depicting people or landscapes, there is undoubtedly a movement of the heart. Confusion, hope, conflict, rebirth—these emotions appear without form, yet with a definite heat. The vivid colors and bold compositions are not for decoration; they are an expression of the very essence of being alive.

It's not art to be explained, but art to be felt.
Just having one in a space can change the atmosphere of the room.
It's quiet, yet there's a heartbeat somewhere.

Ayog Arts does not present complete "answers," but rather works that allow for free interpretation of the artist's world.

The meaning changes depending on the viewer's experiences and emotions. We believe that this freedom is the richness of abstract expression and the power of contemporary African art.

African art is not just the decoration of a distant culture.
It is a form of energy born from within the people living today.

Please try to feel that heartbeat with your own sensibilities.
