Connecting Cultures, Enriching Everyday Life through African Fine Art
WELCOME to AYOGU ARTS!!
Making art a part of everyday life. Taking Africa to new possibilities. We aim to create a new cultural economic sphere connecting Japan and Africa, starting with African art. Rather than "consuming" works, the act of experiencing and supporting African cultural backgrounds and the passion of artists will itself become a force supporting the future of creativity. Encounters with art will circulate into sustainable creative activities, learning opportunities, and the power to support the next generation of talent. Enjoying art will connect to the future of the creators. We will spread this new form of art from Tokyo.
The Story Behind AYOGU ARTS
Finding the Courage to Take the First Step
Through my work to date, I have come into contact with cultures and expressions from all over the world. I have always been particularly drawn to works by Aboriginals, Native Americans, and Inuit, which express culture and thought in a tangible form.
It was during this time that I met my spouse, who is originally from Africa, that Africa, which had always been a distant place for me, became much closer to me. Learning about the environment, which was different from Japan, and the way my family lived there, gave me the courage to take the first step towards not just appreciating art, but also to take part in activities that connect people with art.
As an extension of this, I began to research African art, and was fascinated by the vibrant colors and expressions, which made me want to introduce this art in my own words.
What AYOGU ARTS values is not to end consumption as a way to satisfy desire, but to turn it into an "act of receiving happiness." The person who draws, the person who selects, the person who delivers. We would like to gradually create a cycle in which everyone involved feels "it was worth doing."
